Radio Antenna Connector

SMA connector (Wikipedia info):
· Male: Has Male (protruding) pin in middle, threads on the inside.
· Female: Has receptacle/hole in middle (to receive pin), threads on the outside.
· Reverse Polarity (RP):
o RP-SMA Male has threads on the inside like a conventional Male, but has a center receptacle instead of the Male pin in the middle.
o RP-SMA Female has threads on the outside like a conventional Female, but has a Male pin instead of the center receptacle in the middle.
Flexible cable:
· RG178 vs RG316 type. Similar materials, but RG316 is more heavy duty, thicker (Reference):
o RG178: 0.071" OD. 0.012" conductor diameter.
o RG316: 0.098" OD. 0.020" conductor diameter.
· Recommended:

o Bingfu SMA Female Bulkhead Mount to SMA Male RG316 Antenna Extension Cable 6 inch 15cm. Amazon link.
· Avoid:
o Uxcell SMA Male to Female Nut Bulkhead Crimp RG316 Cable Jumper Pigtail 15cm. Amazon link. The cable I received has a RP-SMA Male, instead of SMA Male.
· Recommended:
o RFAdapter / SMA Right Angle Adapter. Amazon link.
Baofeng (or Pofung)
For the BF-F8HP, UV-B5 (obsolete), UV-5R models:
· The radio has a Male SMA.
· The antenna has a Female SMA.
My setup (BF-F8HP on a Sup'Air / Cockpit Standard):
· Pictures:
o Over the flight deck, 2022/1/12. Using a Solid 90° angle (Amazon link), then a flexible cable (Amazon link).
o Under the flight deck, 2022/1/12. The flexible cable (Amazon link) connects to the antenna (which remains vertical for better transmission).
For the VX-6R model:
· The radio has a Female SMA.
· The antenna has a Male SMA.
